Requirements, not a wish list
We separate what the shop must do on day one from what can wait: variants, gift vouchers, subscriptions, customer groups, trade prices, several languages, shipping abroad.
There is no general answer to “which platform is best?”. Put four figures on the table and the answer more or less appears: how many products, how many orders a month, which countries you ship to and which accounting package you use. Take a Celje online shop for children's goods with 150 products that wants to be trading before December. A hosted platform such as Shopify can be ready within weeks, and nobody has to look after a server. A furniture exporter from the Savinja Valley with 3,000 lines, made-to-order variants and dealer price lists is a different case. There, data access, the link to the ERP and how far the platform bends will decide. We work through these numbers with you before recommending anything.
The service covers both the decision and the build. If you prefer, take only the comparison and build the shop with your own team or another agency.
We separate what the shop must do on day one from what can wait: variants, gift vouchers, subscriptions, customer groups, trade prices, several languages, shipping abroad.
Monthly or annual subscription, payment provider fees, paid apps, theme, hosting and maintenance time, all in one table. The sums use your order volumes, not the figures from a sales demo.
Is there a maintained connector for Minimax, Metakocka or Pantheon? Who issues the invoice, and how will stock stay in step with Amazon or Ceneje.si? These questions often matter more than the look.
Theme adjustments, product import, VAT rates, card payments through a provider the platform supports for Slovenian merchants, SEPA transfer and cash on delivery where appropriate, shipping with Pošta Slovenije, GLS or DPD, plus terms and a withdrawal form.
On Shopify and Wix you have no access to the server or the full code. For most smaller shops that is a plus, since upkeep is not your job. PrestaShop is open source and hosted by you, giving more freedom and more responsibility. If you need unusual pricing logic, we say so in writing.
The shop account, the payment provider contract, the domain and app subscriptions sit with your company. At the outset we confirm that products, customers and orders can be exported to a file whenever you like.
The comparison usually takes two to three weeks. How long the build takes depends on your product structure and the number of integrations.
On a video call we go through product structure, monthly orders, target markets, payment methods and the software you use. Missing numbers are estimated together, with a low and a high bound.
You get a document setting two or three suitable platforms side by side on cost, effort and risk, plus a clear recommendation with written reasoning.
On the chosen platform we create a few of your trickiest products, such as those with many variants, and run an order from card payment through to the parcel label.
Shop set-up, import of the full range, test orders with a real card, team training by video call and go-live on a quieter weekday.
The line nobody adds up at the start is paid apps. On hosted platforms nearly every feature that is not built in means another monthly subscription: product reviews, advanced filters, marketplace connectors, accounting links. A mid-sized shop soon reaches eight or ten apps, and the monthly bill ends up well above the base plan. PrestaShop modules are often a one-off purchase, but hosting and updates are then on you. We price these lines against your real feature list.
Wix suits a smaller shop where the website matters as much as the selling. Shopify is strong for growth, selling in several countries and currencies, and for its large app catalogue. PrestaShop is the pick if you want open source, your own hosting and tighter control of data. Your numbers decide, not popularity.
Yes, with some work. Products, customers and orders can be exported; customer passwords usually cannot. Design, apps and custom features are rebuilt. That is why the first choice should allow for the next three years of growth.
It depends on the platform. We first check which payment providers the chosen platform offers to a merchant based in Slovenia, then add cards with 3-D Secure, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and SEPA transfer. Where the platform allows it, cash on delivery goes in too.
When you need special pricing or delivery rules, many ERP connections, or when monthly fees and apps cost more than running your own shop. In that case we recommend our Online store service and explain why.
Give us a rough product count, your monthly orders and the accounting package you use. Within one working day we will send the questions still needed for the comparison.

An engineer will write back no later than the following working day. Faults that leave your staff unable to work are always looked at first.
No town by that name here. Check the letters, or settle for the nearest larger place. Our engineers work only over the internet, so Kočevje and Koper get precisely the same treatment.
