WordPress websites

A large share of Slovenian websites runs on WordPress, which is exactly why it has two reputations. One site loads in a second and the office manager updates it without help. Another carries thirty plugins and nobody dares press “update”. The software is the same; the difference comes from choices made at launch. Picture a six-lawyer practice in Nova Gorica that wants to publish short notes on case law, offer an Italian version for clients across the border and take bookings for a first consultation online. A theme written for them plus four or five plugins that someone actually maintains will cover all of that. Any further plugin gets on the list only with a written reason.

Scope of the service

A WordPress site from us is made of the parts below. A plugin that is not on this list is added only with a written justification.

Check the scope with an engineer

A block theme in your house style

We build Gutenberg blocks you will genuinely use: service cards, team profiles, a price table, a notice box, a list of downloadable documents. Your staff assemble new pages from these pieces, with no heavy page builder and no layouts that fall apart on a phone.

Roles and sign-off

WordPress roles decide who writes, who publishes and who may touch plugins. Drafts wait for approval, and settings stay with two or three people.

Several languages, kept tidy

Slovenian as the main language, with English, Italian, German or Croatian added through Polylang or WPML. Each language has its own URLs and correct hreflang tags, so search engines never mix the versions up.

Privacy notices and cookies

A short privacy notice next to each form under GDPR and ZVOP-2, a separate cookie policy and a banner that loads analytics or embedded video only once the visitor agrees, as ZEKom-2 expects. Your legal adviser approves the wording; we handle the technical side.

Forms and appointment booking

Spam-protected forms and, where useful, a booking flow that reads free slots from a Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace calendar. Enquiries land straight with the right person.

Baseline security from launch

Multi-factor sign-in on every admin account, a cap on login attempts, caching, WebP images and a daily backup stored somewhere other than the web server itself.

How the work runs

Coding rarely decides how long the project takes. What matters is how many distinct page types you need and when the copy will be ready.

01

Content inventory

Before we talk colours, a video call covers what your team publishes now and what it would like to publish: news, articles, job ads, events. The block list comes out of that conversation.

02

Blocks on trial

We build the theme in a staging environment. You put together two or three real pages there yourself, so we see early whether the blocks survive everyday use.

03

Content and connections

Copy is moved across or re-entered, forms are linked to your mailbox or CRM, language versions are paired and redirects from old URLs are prepared.

04

Handover

Go-live with 301 redirects, transfer of every login to your company, a short session in Teams or Google Meet and a one-page sheet saying who updates what, and how often.

A paid plugin with a lapsed licence keeps working but stops receiving security fixes. It is one of the most common weak spots on small business sites: someone bought the forms or SEO plugin years ago on a personal card, the renewal failed and nobody noticed. We therefore register every licence to the company and a shared address such as info@, and put the expiry dates in the handover document.

Your questions answered

We write it, though without a heavy framework. Multipurpose marketplace themes bring hundreds of features; your site might use a tenth of them and the rest becomes risk at every update. A theme of your own means less code, quicker pages and easier upkeep.

We look at it first. If the theme is lean and the plugins are current, we can refresh it step by step. If everything hangs on an outdated page builder or an abandoned theme, a new theme is often the cheaper route. Either way your copy, images and URLs are kept.

Any host offering a current PHP version, SSH access and regular backups will do, normally in an EU data centre. The contract is in your company's name. We can set up the server or work with the provider you already use.

Yes, provided the theme is prepared for it. If you are not selling online today, WooCommerce only adds maintenance. Once you decide to sell, the shop slots in without rewriting the theme.

From the number of page types, languages and integrations. After the first video call you receive a quote split into phases. Later changes are billed at €50 per hour plus VAT, always with your approval beforehand.
