Full-cost comparison
Hetzner, OVHcloud, IONOS or a hyperscaler's EU region, set out by price per terabyte, egress fees, data location and Object Lock support, including what restoring everything would cost.
An architecture studio in Kranj with fifteen employees keeps adding to a heap of files that are hardly ever opened and must never be lost: planning permission sets, BIM models of finished buildings, quantity schedules and estimates, documents attached to payment claims, and site photos in their thousands. The NAS in the office is almost out of room, and its one backup is a USB drive on the very same shelf. Object storage fixes both at once. Staff do not browse it like a network drive; programs use it. Backup software, shops with huge product galleries, document management systems and in-house apps push data in and pull it out over the S3 protocol. It scales almost endlessly and you are billed for what you actually hold. Its standout feature is Object Lock: until a retention date passes, locked data cannot be edited or erased, not by an admin and not by a criminal who has phished a password. In a ransomware incident, that copy is very often what lets a business start again.
Making a bucket is instant. Its value in a crisis depends on retention settings, narrowly scoped keys and evidence that last night's job really finished.

Backups, archive and application files each get their own bucket, encryption, access policy and a line explaining its purpose.
You choose the immutability window, say 30 days. Within it, no one can delete or overwrite the data, including us and including an attacker holding admin rights.
Veeam, Acronis, restic, Synology Hyper Backup, Microsoft 365 backup products or a shop image folder point at the bucket, and we verify that each job completes, not merely that it began.
One key per system; the backup tool may write but is never allowed to delete. Keys are rotated and stored in your password vault.
Older objects slide into cheaper classes and expired ones are purged on schedule, with no reminder needed in anyone's diary.
Configuration is a short job. Uploading the first few terabytes over an office connection can stretch over several days, so we run it out of hours.
What to protect, its size, backup frequency, how long to keep it and how soon it must be usable again after an incident.
Account in your firm's name, buckets, encryption, lock periods, keys and storage-class rules, summarised on one sheet.
Connecting backup software or the application, watching the initial run and checking the daily runs that follow.
We restore single files and, if relevant, a full VM. Handover happens only after that works.
Backup and archive are two different things. A backup brings systems back to their last good state after an incident and can be dropped after a few months. An archive keeps closed records unchanged for years, invoices and other accounting documents among them. Store both together and you will either pay to keep backups forever or let a rotation rule erase something you had to keep. That is why we separate them from the outset, each with its own retention. Your accountant should confirm how long each kind of record must be held.
That depends on the amount of data and your bandwidth. Single files come back within minutes, an entire server of a few hundred GB within hours. We time an actual restore during testing, so the figure is known before you need it.
Most encrypt stored data by default, and we confirm this before choosing. For special category data such as a Maribor dental clinic's patient files, we also encrypt on your side before upload, leaving the provider with unreadable blocks. Keep the key, and an offline copy of it, because without it nothing can be restored.
Egress is the one people forget. Some providers bill per gigabyte retrieved, which hurts during a large restore; others hardly charge. Our proposal shows the monthly storage figure and the cost of a complete restore side by side.
Enter the storage, provider, region and retention in your record of processing activities and sign a processing agreement. Erased personal data lingers in backups until those expire; that is defensible if your retention policy states it and sets an end date. Have your lawyer confirm.
The provider invoices you for storage and any egress. Set-up is €50 per hour plus VAT, while job monitoring and scheduled restore tests can be part of Start, Business or Premium.
Describe what you need to keep, approximately how much, and which backup tool you use today. We will answer with a provider proposal, a configuration plan and costs.

An engineer will write back no later than the following working day. Faults that leave your staff unable to work are always looked at first.
No town by that name here. Check the letters, or settle for the nearest larger place. Our engineers work only over the internet, so Kočevje and Koper get precisely the same treatment.
