Shipping and courier integration

Our example is a Murska Sobota garden supplies retailer. Alongside gloves and pruners it ships wheelbarrows and composters. GLS carries small boxes, DPD handles bulky ones on a negotiated deal, and customers increasingly ask to pick up from a Pošta Slovenije locker. Each morning a warehouse worker copies orders into courier websites, prints labels individually and sends tracking codes by hand. Postage on the site is a single flat amount, so a composter shipped as two boxes wipes out the profit; dimensional weight was never calculated. A share of orders is paid in cash to the driver, and reconciling courier remittances against orders eats time every month end. After integration the buyer is quoted true postage and selects a locker from a map. The warehouse runs one batch print. Tracking, COD and returns move along without re-keying. Connections are set up and watched over remotely, while packing and dispatch carry on in your own warehouse exactly as now.

Scope of the service

Two or three carriers connected side by side is normal. Buyers get options, and a single carrier's peak-season limits stop being your bottleneck.

Carriers

Pošta Slovenije, GLS, DPD, Express One, and for express or cross-border work DHL Express and UPS. Integrated directly via carrier APIs or through a multi-carrier aggregator.

Postage in the basket

Charged on whichever is higher, real or dimensional weight, by destination and service level, and visible before address entry. Oversize and fragile surcharges are configured separately.

Lockers and collection points

Buyers choose the selected carrier's locker or collection point from a map during checkout. That choice is printed on the label, and the carrier messages the pick-up code to the buyer.

Account numbers and terms

Your carrier account number, invoicing arrangement and COD permission are configured so shipments are billed at your negotiated rate rather than list price.

Labels and driver manifest

Paid orders print together on a thermal or A4 printer, along with a manifest for collection.

Tracking updates

Tracking IDs are attached to orders, emailed or texted to buyers and, where a marketplace sale is involved, reported to it. Events such as “recipient unknown” or “in locker awaiting collection” reach staff ahead of any complaint.

COD and returns handling

COD remittances are allocated to orders; parcels sent back are listed on their own. Buyers generate a return label using the order number, the warehouse sees inbound returns in advance, and goods re-enter stock once inspected.

How the work runs

No basket can quote correct postage until items have weights and sizes. Product data is therefore always step one, integrations step two.

Test parcels

Real shipments tracked with every carrier from label to doorstep, among them a return, a locker drop and a COD parcel.

Postage without product dimensions is a guess. Carriers weigh parcels both ways, physically and dimensionally, and invoice the larger figure. Something light yet large, a composter or a flat-packed patio table, loses money each time under flat-rate postage. Record packed dimensions per item once, and checkout, free delivery logic and carrier invoices will agree from then on.

Your questions answered

A useful rule of thumb is a little above average order value, nudging buyers to add one more item. We analyse your orders to see how many baskets fall just short, what the threshold would cost in postage and what extra sales it might generate.

It depends on destinations, parcel profile, whether COD and lockers matter and the price each carrier offers you. A month of running two in parallel and comparing transit time and breakage normally settles it.

Your team files the claim, but the paperwork is ready: shipment data, the buyer's photos and the packing rule sit on the order, and a replacement goes out in a click.

No. Our work is limited to software and configuration, delivered remotely. Packing and driver handover remain with your warehouse or logistics partner; we simply make labels, tracking and statuses move without anyone retyping them.

Yes. Through DHL Express, UPS and similar carriers, labels, pro forma invoices and customs data can be generated from item records. Customs procedures and VAT treatment are for your customs agent and accountant to decide; we make sure the system output is complete.
